We’ve all seen the crappy live-action mario/nintendo themed movies… but this one is actually pretty damn good. Luigi is dealing smack, mario is jobless, peach is a whore (as usual). Only one episode is out right now, but apparently ep2 is done and will be put on the web soon. I’m not sure how long it will actually go as a series, but if they kept making them the same quality as the first… it should be pretty damn good.

click on the episodes (obviously) and they have some little lakitu news show things on there too that are pretty good.. but i’d watch the ep first.

Has anyone seen this before? I’m assuming shadow has since his avatar is from this series. I just started watching it.. kind of on a whim. It never really seemed that interesting to me but for some reason I just started watching it and it’s pretty cool. I feel like I’m watching CSI but there are demons and stuff. At first I thought it was just some kid who finds a book that basically allows him to kill anyone as long as he knows their face and their name. But it turns into him doing this while staying one step ahead of the police.. and this genius detective who goes by the name L (that’s the guy in shadow’s AV).

Right now I’m on episode 10 (there are 37 in all) and I just wanted to see what other people here thought of this series if you’ve seen it.. and if not I think it’s worth a (not)download or a (not)megavideo or whatever that site is(n’t).

X-Files have been waiting for over six years to see Fox Maulder and Dana Scully return. Finally, after many lawsuits, Fox green lit a new X-Files project. However, shortly after we have learned that the new script was rushed through and that the movie received a low budget for development which is unfortunate.

Being a major X-Files fan I decided to go and catch the movie in theaters some what knowing what to expect. So how was the new X-Files movie? Kind of disappointing I must admit. The movie played out like a bad episode from the past show. While I still am glad I got to see the movie, seeing Maulder and Dana exploring the unknown again makes me want a better and bigger movie even more now.

***STORY SPOILERS***

When a group of women are abducted in the wintry hills of rural Virginia, the only clues to their disappearance are the grotesque human remains that begin to turn up in snow banks along the highway. With officials desperate for any lead, a disgraced priest’s questionable visions send local police on a wild goose chase and straight to a bizarre secret medical experiment that may or may not be connected to the women’s disappearance. Its a case right out of The X-Files. But the FBI closed down its investigations into the paranormal years ago. And the best team for the job is ex-agents Fox Mulder and Dr. Dana Scully, who have no desire to revisit their dark past. Still, the truth of these horrific crimes is out there somewhere…and it will take Mulder and Scully to find it!

***END OF STORY SPOILERS***

I thought I knew what the story was going to be about. I figured it was going to be about werewolves since the leaked image. That image must have been a hoax by Chris Carter since there is now werewolves in this movie. Unfortunately the story itself wasn’t very good. It didn’t feel as creepy as most X-Files episodes typically are. The show also didn’t have much in terms of action and suspense. I would say that the production felt both rushed and tired as if the person who wrote the script didn’t really care about X-Files at all but was paid to push something out.

Is the movie worth seeing? If you are an X-Files fan then I would say YES. The movie still has some moments in it which remind you of the glorious days of the two FBI agents investigating the unknown. The series has always been known for it’s realistic look into paranormal activity. There is also a few funny scenes in the film and even a slight crack at Bush. If you are not typically an X-Files fan then you likely are not going to enjoy this movie. I personally am still going to pick this up on Blu-Ray whenever it gets released. I just wish the film was as epic as it should have been.

Chris Carter expressed interest in continuing to make new X-Files movies and he wanted to make one that finally wrapped up the original arc regarding a 2012 alien invasion in which was where the show left off at. However, he said that Fox would not green light another X-Files project unless this movie did well enough in the box office. Unfortunately The Dark Knight absolutely obliterated this movie and the X-Files movie only made about $10 million in box office sales. Momma Mia kicked it’s trash which is even more embarrassing. This means that you will likely never see another X-Files movie ever made which is pretty unfortunate.

From what I can tell, most people seem to despise X-Files. Even before this some what mediocre movie release even happened. In order for any chance of saving the X-Files name, Chris Carter would have had to blow us away with I Want To Believe and unfortunately the movie totally underwhelmed everyone. Even many X-Files fans were upset by the quality of this one.

Personally, while most people believe that nothing more can be done with X-Files, I think the show still has a ton of untapped potential in it. The series ended with the aliens preparing to invade and colonize Earth so why not have Fox Maulder and Dana Scully work undeground with other people in an attempt to stop the alien invasion? Kind of like the show “First Wave”. I believe that this would be a fresh idea that could potentially work either as a new tv series or a new movie or two. It will likely never happen now since this recent movie flopped. Fourreasons the movie flopped:

1. The script was rushed around the time the writer strike occurred. Fox just wanted to push something through.
2. The budget for the movie was a meager $30 million which isn’t much for a movie these days.
3. Fox didn’t do much in terms of marketing this movie. Many people didn’t even know an X-Files movie was being made. Most of the marketing that did occur took place on the internet.
4. Finally Fox launched this movie way to close to The Dark Knight. An epic movie like that completely overshadowed X-Files. They should have released it a month or two later.

Overall X-Files: I Want To Believe was a movie that just didn’t deliver the quality that we are use to with X-Files. It could have and should have been much better. That being said I still enjoyed the movie enough to warrant a purchase. This is likely the last X-Files movie you will ever see. I believe that Fox themselves played a key role in the failure of this movie as I stated above which helps ensure that another movie will never be made. It would be a surprise if Fox actually allows Chris Carter to make another X-Files movie. I just can’t see that happening. At least not unless the DVD/Blu-Ray sales some how does well enough.

X-Files fans, go see this movie expecting nothing more then a new X-Files episode that isn’t perfect but still some what delivers that X-Files feel that we have always liked. Go in with minimal expectations and you just might enjoy it for what it is.
