This thread is for your 5 favorite bands, and your favorite album by that band. They don’t even have to be bands in the traditional sense either, so trance/techno and whatever else is fine too.

I think the best format to do this would be to link the band to their wiki (granted they have one, which they should seeing as how pretty much everything has a wiki these days), and hotlink the album art from amazon.com (granted it’s on there, some really indie and lesser known groups may not have any). Also a link to a favorite song on youtube would be cool too.

Here are mine in no particular order:

Queens of the Stone Age - They may be my favorite band of all time. As far as I’m concerned, Josh Homme is a musical genius and can do no wrong. I find it hard to dislike any of their songs/albums, so choosing a favorite is really tough. I’d probably have to go with Rated R though because it has In the Fade which is probably my favorite song ever.

In the Fade (Live)
Bonus: Josh Homme calling out some dude at the show they played in Tallahassee that me and Chrk were at.

-----

Death From Above 1979 - Great, great music filled with raw intesity. It sucks that they were only long enough to put out a full length album and an EP, but they’re both amazing.

Going Steady (Live)

-----

Weezer - I’m kind of kicking myself for not getting into them while I was in high school like everyone else, but I guess that’s just how it happened. These guys rock, and I love it. I guess maybe I’m getting into them because I can relate to the majority of their lyrics right now, but I think it also stems from the fact that they’re just a really good band.

El Scorcho (Live in 1996)

-----

Dillinger Escape Plan - These guys are the epitome or harsh and abrasive. They are definitely an acquired taste too. They put on a ridiculously intense live show, and all of their albums have been stellar. Their newest one is shit your pants good, but I’m going to have to go with Miss Machine as my favorite just because it was my introduction to them.

Setting Fire to Sleeping Giants

-----

The Mars Volta - Probably the most prog, prog band right now. Taking a new direction with each album, they’re all really great. Their newest one, The Bedlam in Goliath, quickly became my new favorite by them due to their new drummer kicking intense amounts of ass. Some of their stuff can be kind of out there (i.e. most of Francis the Mute) though, so if you go to listen to them, keep that in mind.

This is a good and detailed post, I hate making these lists though because I can never decide which are the best… Plus it would mostly be gay shit that would just get me ridiculed for years to come. downer

Hah, well, obviously these are all subjective. I’m not trying to say these are the best albums ever in the world, but that I really like them. That’s why I made that little aside about trance/techno. wink

Its true, you’re music selections are questionable.

Wow, this is a really involved topic… but what the hell, I’ve got time to spare and I hate to see this thread sitting here all lonely. Some of my videos don’t match the albums, but whatever. Also, a lot of talkshow videos? I don’t really know what’s up with the awesome talkshow performances here, but I highly recommend all of them.

Death From Above 1979 - Heads Up
NMJ and I share DFA1979 as a favorite, they’re awesome. Guess I’ll pick a different album + video than him, just to change things up.
Romantic Rights Live on Conan O’Brien

51oXbzqGUtL._AA280_.jpg
Mastodon - Blood Mountain
One of the few metal bands I really give a crap about. Blood Mountain is a concept album about climbing a mountain full of crazy creatures in search of crystal skull. Hopefully the next Indiana Jones movie will be this cool.
Colony Of Birchmen

51KP3SY3W8L._AA240_.jpg
The White Stripes - Elephant
If you haven’t heard of the White Stripes you must be living under a rock. Jack White is a musical genius and a living legend. Hard to pick a favorite album with these guys, but Elephant was the first album of theirs I heard, so I’ll go with it.
Let’s Build a Home Live on Conan O’Brien

41TP8AJCTCL._AA240_.jpg
Kid Koala - Some of My Best Friends Are DJs
I feel like Kid Koala’s work legitimizes the turntables as a real musical instrument, with his unique playing style. I love his quirky samples and laidback beats.
Skanky Panky (Live)

41C800WM11L._AA240_.jpg
Beastie Boys - Ill Communication
Classic. Classic. Classic. So much energy and flair, I love em. They got a little preachy after 9/11, but their new instrumental album was solid and totally funky.

These are the bands/albums I can listen from start to end without finding a song to be crap:
alphabetically ordered:

The Beatles - don’t think I have to say a lot about them…
album:

Creedence Clearwater Revival

Album:
The Best of Creedence Clearwater Revival

Lynyrd Skynyrd
Album:
The Essential
511PK4VJ1XL._SS500_.jpg
Simple Man - this is a recent performance by Johnny Van Zant, Ronnie Van Zants younger brother(Ronnie died in ‘77 in a plane crash incase you were wondering). The original recorded version is on the album but this performance is almost identical.

Steppenwolf
Album:
Gold
gold_frt.jpg
Magic Carpet Ride

UPDATE: added lynyrd skynyrd
that’s 4/5 now. I now just need to find a really good eric clapton or allman brothers band album…
... Ill post more later, these are more the generic bands that every rock fan likes(I think...).

Alkali, you should listen to Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. It’s probably my favorite Beatles album.

Also, aside from Magic Carpet Ride, what else did Steppenwolf play? Didn’t they do Born to be Wild? I know they had some other really big song that I can’t think of.

10. Don’t Step On The Grass Sam
11. Tighten Up Your Wug
12. It’s Never Too Late
13. Jupiter’s Child
14. Rock Me
15. Monster: Suicide/America/Medley

Disc: 2

12. Ride With Me
13. I’m Movin’ On

A handful of Steppenwolfs songs are also criticizing the US government for lying and hypocrisy, e.g: Monster: Suicide/America/Medley, Don’t Step On The Grass Sam… “Ostrich” is about people sticking their heads in the sand staying ignorant about politics/world conflicts etc.

1.  The Beatles, Revolver and the soundtrack for their Cirque De Soleil show Love

2.  Cake, Fashion Nugget.  This album has the cover track of “I Will Survive” which when sung by a guy just has a completely different feel than the original.

3.  The Decemberists, Castaways and Cutouts.  My favorite song The Legionnaire’s Lament, sad but funny.

4. Disney’s Happiest Celebration on Earth.  Various artists and tracks from attractions, parades, and events.  My favorite thing to listen to when I’m driving to the park.

5. Gorillaz, Demon Days.  Interesting music, catchy but not obscenely poppy.

I just watched most of your youtube videos… and must say that I really don’t like any of them. Kid Koala was somewhat interesting but the others left me uninterested. Gorillaz also has some interesting songs that appeal to me… but I like to stay with my classic rock.. still trying to find the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band…

The only problem with classic rock is that there’s never anything new to listen to. LOL

I know :(
but then again, pretty much everything is new to me because I don’t know that genre too well yet.
I only properly discovered Steppenwolf a week ago.
