so I’ve noticed that my computer doesn’t know how to handle any asian characters (and maybe russian letters too?), I just get ????????s everywhere and it’s pretty annoying. for instance, check out this .jp site and imagine it as all question marks.

do i just need to click a button somewhere in firefox or the control panel, or do i need to download a language pack or something? anyway this is making it hard to navigate sites when i’m doing super in-depth websurfing for pron and stuff you know?

I’m on a normal Windows (XP Pro) and I haven’t done anything special to display Asian characters and they all work fine.  Go into your keyboard and language settings and be sure any/all Asian expansion packs are installed (LOL).

I also always have question marks on japanese websites, but I don’t view asian porn anyway so I don’t really care…

yeah usually i get the ????? and the boxes… but when i viewed that page you linked to chrk it was all boxes with numbers in them… which is also lame… ive always wondered this same thing but i guess didnt really care

haha i don’t really need it for porn (mostly), it’s just that lately i’ve just been coming across a lot of sites that have japanese in them for whatever reason and it makes it really hard to navigate. mine used to work fine until i got my new computer, so i figured i’d end up having to bust out the xp install disk, but i wanted to check first. now that i gotta hunt that damn thing down, it’ll probably be later in the week before i have time to fix it.

actually you did the dirty work! opening a topic with the title “displaying asian characters” took longer that “I’m feeling lucky” the same phrase on google!

but I don’t really understand how this helps with navigation? can you actually identify any of those characters???

naw its more of a pattern recognition thing, i can follow the same set of symbols around once i’ve compared them to their link destination by doing a mouseover, but i can’t follow around a page full of question marks.

it helps me cuz i can read japanese… but not question marks

Ironically, my browser shows Asian characters fine, but I can only read question marks.
