eh, how about those dells? don’t they also come with the exact same 24” monitor, check out the “XPS one”.

CNET says get an iMac over the XPS One even if you’re only running Windows.  It’s a great machine stop being annoying and biased.  If I listened to you rather than doing my research I would be getting a worse product.  Thanks.

what the shit you getting so pissed off for?
you were doing research and I recommended you to check out the xps which is very similar… you yourself are jumping between costum gaming machines and iMacs… I’m just trying to help, holy shit.

Sorry I didn’t notice it was your post.  My friend has been bugging the shit out of me harassing me for getting a Mac and he’s pissing me off.  He also posts here and he knows who he is. mad I just assumed it was him still trying to talk me out of the Mac when I read it (on my phone) so I missed your avatar/name.  My bad. downer

Are you asking for my advice on speakers, your computer, or both?  And also tell me what you’re looking for out of them so I know what to recommend.

Both. And I’m looking to stay around $2000, including LCD monitor & above-average speakers.

Do you want to get a Mac or Windows machine?  If you want to get a Mac you can get the rig I explained in my first post (including the 8800GS 512MB) except with a 2.8GHz processor instead of 3.06GHz, and 2GB of RAM instead of 4GB.  I love OS X and can’t wait to get mine, but that’s a personal decision you would have to make, perhaps by trying them out at a Mac store or watching the excellent 27 minute video about OS X on the Apple site.  It just seems better for EVERYTHING (besides gaming).  That would be $2,000 for everything besides external speakers (and who knows, you might even like the built-in ones, but could always just hook up externals).  If you want external ones it probably wouldn’t cost much more so you’re looking at $2,000 plus however much the speakers you want cost (you could get above average ones for around $100 - $200).

It is the third machine on that list (starts at $1,799 but I upgraded some components in the customizer).

If you want pure Windows and no Mac tell me so I can research that, but the glorious 24” LCD is a beauty and they have a great resale value for when you upgrade.

I only disliked Macs for three reasons and all of them have been solved:

Gaming
- You can now run Windows natively or virtually (though some big games like WoW, Spore, and CoD4 are on Mac natively).

No right click
- They now support right clicking.

Few programs available - Most programs are available for Macs these days and many people design great Mac exclusive apps.  You can always run a virtual Windows within OS X to run Windows specific programs.

I don’t really feel the need for Mac OS X. It might be cool to mess around with, but I’m fine with Windows. I want at least 4GB of RAM in my machine.

I can tell you about a few decent websites that build it for you, but I’m not up on the latest PC components since I’ve lost interest in doing it for my personal life and dropped out of PC gaming.  I mainly only look at them for my work and they are much lower end units, sorry.  The only thing I know anything about now are the newer Macs.

I’m sticking with just the iMac.  I’ll have Windows Vista, OS X, and Ubuntu Linux on it to start.

I don’t feel like I saved any money building my own.  I ended up spending quite a bit and didn’t even end up with a new keyboard or monitor and still have no speakers.  Buying prebuilt from anywhere is probably gonna give the best deal because Vista itself is already so expensive.  I dunno, after all I put into my machine I feel pretty ripped off.

Both Lyzz & I get one, the specs in my original post are what we both got and we’re both loving it.

So I’ve got Vista on here and it works great, though it unfortunately only recognizes 3GB of RAM even though I have 4GB.  I would have to use Vista x64 (which isn’t fully supported via Boot Camp yet) to recognize all 4GB, so I’ll be fine with 3GB for now.

After downloading a Vista Service Pack it now recognizes all 4GB of RAM...strange.  Works great though…

If I could get a Macbook on the cheap I would definitely get one. I really would like a laptop that I use strictly for work/school. I get distracted way too easily on my current laptop, I swear I have ADD.

If you do, wait a few months.  Supposedly they are upgrading the line a lot soon and the price won’t go up.
