Ok so I got this game from the Indie Nation post off Destructoid. Anthony Burch usually puts up some good games on there, and I’ve actually downloaded and enjoyed most of the games he mentions.
This one, however, was a text-based game… and if there’s one thing I could NEVER get in to it’s text based games. Even like Kings Quest or w/e back in the day… I could never rock those games.. they were just too boring.. and I hated having to type when I wanted to search for stuff. BUT something told me to try this game.. at least give it a shot… because I wanted to read the rest of the article and he insists that you play the game first. I thought “what the hell it will probably only take 5 minutes or so..” So I started playing the game… and realized it would take much longer… at first I hated it because it’s supposedly really easy.. but I kept getting stuck in spots when I knew what to do, I just wasn’t typing the right thing.
Now that I’ve finished it… I actually feel like I loved it.. and I am playing back through it again on the downloaded version (the online one gave me some troubles with the text colors.. dunno if it was FF or what..) all at once to make sure I pick up the details that I missed.
Basically I have pretty mixed feelings about it, because sometimes I think “hey that was REALLY good” and but then there are parts that make me think “how was 50% of this game necessary?”
Just thought I’d post about it here to see if any of you play it.. and maybe we can discuss it
Maybe someone who enjoys text based games more than me can help me understand some of the things I missed :D
